Dolce&Gabbana DG4292 – From the runway to my collection

Hi, my dear glasses lovers! Today I want to show you another pair of runway sunglasses from my collection — and this time, we are definitely not talking about subtle eyewear. Meet my Dolce & Gabbana DG4292.

Dolce&Gabbana DG4292

Huge. Red and white. Striped. Dramatic. In other words, everything I love.

From the Dolce & Gabbana runway

I first discovered DG4292 in Dolce & Gabbana’s Spring/Summer 2016 collection. If you know me, you probably already know how much I love Dolce & Gabbana.

Their fashion shows are pure color therapy for me — prints, flowers, stripes, embellishments, completely unapologetic femininity and, very often, the philosophy that more is more. So naturally, these sunglasses caught my attention.

Their enormous shape would already be enough to make them stand out, but then Dolce & Gabbana added those bold red and white stripes. There was absolutely no chance I was going to ignore them.

An incredibly lucky find in Istanbul

The funny thing is that I didn’t find my pair in Italy. I bought them from a woman here in Istanbul, who had originally bought them in Milan. And finding them was an incredible stroke of luck.

I had never seen this particular pair for sale before — and I haven’t seen another pair for sale since. This is one of my favorite things about collecting older and unusual eyewear. Sometimes you can search for a particular model for months or even years. And sometimes it simply appears in front of you when you least expect it… and at a surprisingly good price.

To be precise, the full model number of my sunglasses is Dolce & Gabbana DG4292 3058/6G. If you’d like to take a closer look at them, you can see the frame in much more detail in the My Collection section of The Museum of Glasses.

That’s exactly what happened with these. I found them for less than $200, which made the whole discovery even more unbelievable. When that happens, you have to make a decision very quickly. In this particular case, my decision was not very difficult.

Those stripes!

I absolutely adore the huge red and white stripes on these glasses. They make the frame look almost graphic — like a piece of pop art sitting on your face.

And instead of making me want to keep the rest of the outfit simple, they have exactly the opposite effect on me. I want more prints. I especially love wearing these sunglasses with geometric patterns: stripes, checks, polka dots — anything that can have a little visual argument with the frame. Why calm everything down when you can make it even more interesting?

How I styled them

For these photos, I decided not to fight the drama of the glasses at all. I went all the way. I wore a floor-length red dress with white polka dots and took my enormous red-and-white Dolce & Gabbana sunglasses to the sea. Red and white glasses. Red and white dress.

I absolutely love mixing geometric prints — especially when the colors match this perfectly. The polka dots on the dress and the bold stripes on the glasses are completely different patterns, but because they share exactly the same colors, they somehow work beautifully together.

And with the blue Mediterranean Sea in the background, I loved this combination even more. I absolutely love the result! The dress and the sunglasses don’t match in the traditional sense but they speak the same visual language. Both are bold, graphic and slightly excessive.

This is exactly why I enjoy styling unusual glasses so much. I don’t necessarily want to build an outfit that makes the eyewear easier to wear. Sometimes I want to do the opposite. If the glasses are dramatic, let them be dramatic.

From Milan to Istanbul — and into The Museum of Glasses

I love knowing that this pair was originally bought in Milan, eventually found its way to Istanbul, and then somehow ended up in my collection. That little journey has become part of their story. They started on a Dolce & Gabbana runway, someone bought this pair in Milan, I unexpectedly found them years later in Istanbul — and now here they are, being photographed by the Mediterranean.

Not a bad life for a pair of sunglasses. And considering that I still haven’t seen another pair for sale, I feel incredibly lucky to have found them. They are loud, joyful, ridiculous in the best possible way — and unmistakably Dolce & Gabbana. Exactly the kind of glasses I want in The Museum of Glasses.
